Historians believe the first native people to North America came over on a natural ice bridge from Asia during the last Ice Age.
2

The first native people lived a Hunter/Gatherer life style. They would move with the food and the seasons instead of staying in one location.
3
The first native people lived in temporary homes called Teepees. These homes were light and easy to move from one hunting location to the next.
4
Eventually people began to learn more about farming and they built more permanent homes. Their new knowledge lead to a less nomadic lifestyle and more of a farming lifestyle.
5
When Native Americans began to create their permanent settlements, they chose their locations very carefully. They almost always built their settlements alone a body of water. Water was used for transportation, watering crops, and hydrating people and animals.
6
Native Americans had the right idea when it came to building their settlements along large bodies of water, especially since it is something we still do today.
