Mrs. Deal had a great house and a great yard, but she was lonely. She wanted animal friends to visit on the weekends.

When animal friends came to visit - they loved her huge, beautifll grassy yard. She decided she would make a doggy resort where they could come and stay all weekend.

First, she had to hire a builder to build her resort. He loved dogs and told her he would build a great place for her friends.

He decided to build each dog a little private yard. To figure out the size, he measured the perimeter - or the measurement around the yard. The perimeter is the measurement on the outside of an area - just like a fence.

( Perimeter = side+side+side+side)

Once he got the fence around the yard, he measured the area inside it.

( Area = l x w)

Finally she had her doggy resort and all of her animal friends were happy to come visit!
