As Hare awoke, he saw Tortoise in the distance inching along, crossing the finish line.
“Oh no,” he said, “That slow poke might actually beat me!”
Hare ran as quickly as he could, but it was too late. Tortoise was already across the finish line when Hare arrived. “Slow and steady wins the race” said Tortoise with a grin.

2
“This isn’t fair!” exclaimed Hare. “I want a rematch.”
But Tortoise was tired from the long race. So much walking had made his legs sore. He thought for a moment and said,
“Alright Hare, we can have a rematch. But this time I choose the contest.”

3
Hare didn’t care. He thought he could win any competition. “Well okay Tortoise what’s your game?” he asked.
“Investing.” said Tortoise.
Hare looked at Tortoise confused. “Huh?”

4
“It’s simple Hare, we both invest $10,000 however we want. At the end of the year, we see who makes more money” explained Tortoise.
“The end of the year?” complained Hare.
A year was a long time to Hare. But he was determined to win the rematch, so he agreed.

5
The next day, Tortoise and Hare both set off to invest their money. They had $10,000 each and were both eager to make a good profit.

6
Tortoise had made investments before and thought all night long about his different options. He eventually decided to visit the Bond Pond. Tortoise knew he had a whole year so he was in no rush. Investing in a bond would give him a steady return. He invested his $10,000 into a bond with a 1-year maturity and a 5% interest rate.

7
Now Hare had never invested in anything before and had no idea where to start. His lack of knowledge forced him to rely on help from his nemesis- the Stock Hawk. As soon as Hawk started to explain how stocks work, Hare was convinced they were the best option for him. Stocks seemed easy enough and they changed just the way Hare liked- quickly.
“Okay Hare, let me explain to you how you should buy stocks...” Hawk began.
But Hare was in a rush. “I don’t have time for this, just use my $10,000 and buy one stock!”
Hawk tried to continue, “Well I’m not sure that’s a good...”
“I have to go,” exclaimed Hare, “just do it.”
So Hawk took all of Hare’s money and invested it into a single stock.

6 months into the race, Tortoise and Hare happened to pass each other in the forest.
“Hey Hare! How’s your investment going?” asked Tortoise.
Hare tried to act casual as he boastfully exclaimed, “My stock is worth almost 10% more than when I bought it.”
Tortoise was genuinely impressed. “Good for you, are you going to sell it?”

10
“Why, of course not!” said Hare, “I bet it will be worth even more at the end of the year. How’s your investment Tortoise?”
“Well you know me-slow and steady. My bond will give me 5% interest by the end of the year.” Said Tortoise.
Hare smiled to himself, confident as always. His stock had already surpassed the value of Tortoise’s bond. He thought he’d win this rematch for sure.
