We live in a solar system with the Sun in the middle and eight planets orbiting around it. The planets can be divided into two categories: inner and outer planets. We will be going on a journey starting with the Sun and then visiting every planet in the solar system starting with the inner planets and moving to the outer planets.

3
The first stop on our journey is the Sun. The Sun is at the center of the solar system and all of the planets orbit around it. It is only a medium sized star, but is still about one million times the size of the Earth and is very hot.

4
Next, we are going to tour the four inner planets of the solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are smaller than the outer planets, but much denser. Few of them have moons and none have rings.

5

The planet closest to the Sun is Mercury. It is also the smallest planet in the solar system. The surface of the planet is covered in craters and it has a very thin atmosphere.

6
The next stop on our journey is the second planet from the Sun: Venus. It is similar in size and mass to Earth and is very bright in the night sky. This earned Venus the nickname "morning star" or "evening star." Venus is also the hottest planet in the entire solar system.

7
The third planet in the solar system is Earth. It is the only known planet that is able to support life and is where we all live. Earth is the densest planet in the entire solar system and has one moon.

8
The fourth stop on our journey through the solar system is Mars, the last of the inner planets. It is also known as the "red planet" because its thick atmosphere gives it a rusty color. Mars is the only other planet in the inner solar system with moons. Its two moons are named Phobos and Deimos.
