Problem solving skills
Problem solving is finding the best solution to turn a negative situation into an opportunity for making progress.

3
Many skills will be needed to help you do this:
1. Listening
2. Research
3. Thinking
4. Planning
5. Managing
6. Evaluation
7. Presentation

4
Listening skills
People have some of the wisdom, knowledge and understanding we may need to make progress in a situation.
By asking questions and listening to their answers we can then choose what is important for moving forward and from what is not.

5
A person’s voice, words, body movements and eyes all provide observations for our questions. My own questions help me check if I understand what I am observing.

6
Research skills
Research is the search for answers to questions you have about a topic.

7
How to research a topic:
1. Make a list of questions of what you want to know
2. Read through the notes/information to find the answers to your questions
3. Listen to what others think about the topic
4. Decide what you think about the topic

8
Thinking skills
Thinking is the ability to organize thoughts into a useful form so you can take action and solve a problem.

9
A thinking tool is helpful as it breaks a problem into smaller pieces then helps you decide which pieces are needed to solve the problem.

10
Planning skills
When I plan I prepare myself and others for the work that needs to be done.
