For the students of third hour biology, May 2nd was a very sad day. May 2nd was the day that their beloved student teacher Rich Sabs, would leave them for another class in Texas. Even though Rich was sad to leave his most favorite class ever, he was excited for the new opportunities that laid ahead for him. He was going to get his first job teaching as a real teacher, and buy a house that he and his future wife, whom he just proposed to, would live in.

2
His new school was in the country, but he had always wanted to live in the city. There were two cities, the city of Flora and the city of Fauna, that were close to his new school. He decided he would check both cities out, and decide where he wanted to live.

3

On Rich’s house hunting journey, he found that in the city of Fauna, the city limits were rather large. He made the note that the city limits could be compared to the cell membrane of the animal cell because both surround and border the cell and the city. Rich isn’t quite sure if he wants to live in a big city like fauna. He has always lived in the city but not one quite as big as Fauna.
4

Rich noticed that Fauna’s environment is very clean and pure. This was a great selling factor for Richard because he HATES pollution! With the background of a biology teacher, the clean environment reminded him of the cytoplasm of a cell. The cytoplasm of a cell is all the inner space in which all the other parts of the animal cell inhibit.
5

As Rich made his way through the city of Fauna he found himself looking at houses near city hall. The houses were gorgeous but he didn’t know if he could handle living next to a place that controls everything in the city. With Rich Sabs being crazy and throwing parties all the time, he felt that he needed to live in a more secluded part of town. He made another note to himself that City Hall can be compared to the nucleus of the animal cell because it controls all the cell’s functions and City Hall controls all the activities of the city.
6

As Richard made his way to the next house we was looking at, he noticed there was a police station across the street from it. Since this house was in a bad part of town he knew he couldn’t live there because their sirens would go off all the time due to a high crime rate. The police force of the city of Fauna reminded him of the nuclear membrane because they protect the city as the nuclear membrane protects the animal cell. Richard thought he would never find a houses that was right for him.

7
While looking for houses, Richard decided to take a break. He went to the Krispy Kreme factory in Flora to see how they make their doughnuts. The factory and workers made Rich think of ribosomes. The ribosomes make proteins just like the Factory and workers make the doughnuts.

8
After eating his Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Rich drives around the city of Fauna aimlessly, waiting for his next appointment. As he is driving around, he notices that half of the city has smooth roads and half the city has rough roads. He makes another mental note that the smooth roads are similar to the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum and the rough roads are similar to the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum. Both the roads and Endoplasmic Reticulums are transportation systems.

9
Once driving around with no destination in mind, he remembered he needed to send a package to his mom. Rich made his way to post office and waited in line to drop it off. As he was waiting, he realized that the post office and the golgi bodies of the animal cell have very similar aspects. The post office packs and carried packages as the golgi bodies pack and carry proteins and lipids.

10
He finally arrived at the last house of the day. It was a great house with a great yard to study all the biomes near the house. As he was about to leave, he saw that there was a power plant down the block. Richard liked that the plant was there so that their electricity would always come on relatively quick after going off. The power company reminded him of mitochondria because they provide power to the animal cell as the power company provides electricity to the city of Flora.

11
The City of Fauna was beautiful, but Rich thought maybe he should check out another city just to see more options. He decided to head to the city of Flora.

12
As Rich came upon the city of Flora, he saw the Border Patrol Agents stopping cars and checking licenses. While pulling out his registration papers, he thought how Border Control could be compared to the plasma membrane. In the plant cell, the plasma membrane keeps out unwanted, foreign things, that aren’t registered to the cell. Border Patrol helps to keep out illegal immigrants, or bad guys who might harm the city.

13
When he entered the city of Flora, he couldn’t believe the sights and sounds around him. He breathed in the busy city air, and as he exhaled, it reminded him of the cytoplasm of the plant cell. The air was like the cytoplasm, because it surrounded the buildings and people, and took up the space that wasn’t occupied. In the plant cell, the cytoplasm surrounds the different parts of the cell.

14
Rich pulled into the parking lot of the hotel where he would be staying, and got out to check in and get settled. He was getting hungry and decided to go out and get some food. Sadly, his car was low on gas, so he decided to call a taxi. While riding around the city, he thought of how the taxis were like the Endoplasmic Reticulum, which is the transportation for things throughout the cell.

15
Entering the downtown part of the city, he had many restaurants to choose from. His stomach growled as he thought about a burger from Five Guys, chicken Alfredo from Olive Garden, or maybe sushi Ichiban. He smiled as he remembered that the chloroplast of the cell made food for the plant to eat, just as the restaurants of the city made food for him to eat.

16
After deciding on a burger and filling his stomach, he was ready to start his house hunt. He met up with his realtor, who took him to his first house option. The house was a beautiful, old Victorian house that brought him back to his childhood. All of a sudden, he caught a whiff of something very unpleasant. He glanced to his left to see the house was next to the dump. He shook his head no at the realtor, thinking the he couldn’t live next to a place that reminded him of the lysosome of the cell, the garbage can.

17
The next house they went to, the realtor said needed some work. He said the builders were in the middle of construction. As they drove through the growing neighborhood, he saw many construction workers. They reminded him of little ribosomes in the plant cell, because ribosomes produce protein, just as the construction workers made houses.
