The most important pottery fair in Romania takes place in Iasi every year in June, gathering dozens of craftsmen from Romania, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, countries in which relics of the 6000 years old Cucuteni Culture have been discovered.

The name comes from a village near Iasi, where archeologists first discovered traces of this civilization. The Cucuteni pottery is unique in Europe, being similar only to a Neolithic culture in China, which is 1000 years younger.

The spiral motif is prevalent in the Cucuteni pottery. The main colors are red, white and black with variations depending on the baking temperature. The shape varies from simple cups to large vases of the amphora type.
