Rachel always loved school. Today was the most
important of all the days, because today was Rachel’s last
day.
A few days earlier, Rachel’s father had announced to the
family that he had gotten a new job. The family would be
leaving the city and moving to the forest.
Rachel was scared when she first heard the news.
Then her father said, “Don’t be scared, Rachel. I know it’s
scary to leave your home and your friends, but you’ll
have a new home with new friends. A new adventure
awaits!”
“A new adventure!” Rachel repeated her father with
great wonder.
Rachel lived in a noisy city with tall buildings, busy
streets, and lots of people. She already had so many
great adventures that she couldn’t believe there could be
more.

Rachel was now ready for her new adventure,
and her last day of school.
After school Rachel waved and yelled
“goodbye” to her friends and teacher. They
were very sad to see her leave. Rachel was
very sad too.

When she got in the back seat of the car, she looked out
of the window as her dad drove them away. The family
rode mile after mile singing and playing games as the
frog car bobbed and whined down the road. Following
closely behind the frog car was a big white moving truck
full of Rachel's toys.
The ride was so long that Rachel fell asleep.
Father Frog spoke, and Rachel was startled. “Wake up,
kiddo, we’re home.”

Rachel looked out of the window and saw the beginning
of the forest. There was a small white sign that read,
Welcome to Hickory Oak Forest.
Rachel was beaming. She was very excited and nervous
to see her new home. She hoped there would be
children to play with her.
She looked up at the trees that were as tall as the
tallest buildings in the big city.
“Wow!” she exclaimed. Rachel could see little houses at
the tops of the trees. “I wonder who lives all the way up
there,” she said to her mother.
