It was a scorching hot day and I was running with my friends on the hot hot grass and sand. My feet were killing, as I was wearing no shoes but I was used to it and it was still fun.

After a while we had to go back home and help make and prepare the meal. Like usual I had to wait to be the last person to get my food and there wasn't much left, so I also gathered some left overs from my siblings.
5

6
My siblings and I went to the middle of the village we sat on the ground and all the other children in the village gathered around to watch TV, we had the one TV in the whole village.
7

8
After a while all the parents called back their kids and we get called too. Once we get home we start doing house chores including preparing for dinner. I think by now my 8 siblings and I got our routine nailed in our head.
9
10
Although we are a hard working family, we are in poverty and don’t get paid that much after all our work is done.
11

12
After dinner we said our prayers and went to bed. The next morning my uncle brought out the newspaper and it said that in Vancouver, Canada there were high paying jobs and I’ve heard that a one of my classmates had gone there.
13

What will it be like?
Are they friendly there?
I am so nervous.
Should i be excited or frustrated.
14
Secretly, my uncle has been saving up money to get a plane ticket and just told us right now. Will it be worth it? What will this new life be like? I am nervous, but is it better to have nothing here or something there?
15

16
My uncle was still deciding when to book our flight to Vancouver. This is big news for the village because everyone in our village didn't have that much money and handling it was overwhelming. My uncle decided to book it from two days from now and tonight we will have a celebration!
17

I could be a doctor, lawyer or construction worker!
18
When I was walking off from the crowd all my friends joined me, some sad, some happy for me and most were in shock. I will miss my friends but I am also happy for more money, more opportunities, better lifestyle, better environment and probably a whole list more.
19

Two days later…. My uncle woke me up and he said, ’’Get ready and make sure to put on your best looking clothes and your only pair of shoes’’. Quickly I got ready and ate my last meal in India, I ate it slow making this a precious memory and remember all the joy and fun I had at this awesome place. Tears started rushing through most people's eyes as this is the last time they will see me.
21

22
’’Time to go’’ called my uncle as I hoped in the cab. People started coming closer to the cab, everyone was crowding around it. People waving in tears and others smiling. I am so curious what this new place will be like, but what if it is not worth it? This is one of the few times I’ve been in a car and it will be the first time I will go in a plane.
23

Behave, try not to speak, blend in and enjoy.
ok.
24
As we are getting closer to the airport, my uncle was telling my siblings and I about the rules and how to look and act. It was stuff like trying to blend in and trying not to talk because there will be people from all around the world, they will look at you like you’re crazy.
25
26
We were so close to the airport that I could see the planes taking off, they were as fast as a fat cheetah because the plane was massive. This may be the most nerve wracking thing I have ever done.
27

28
It was October 10th,1972. ’’Come help,’’ yelled my dad to us. It was ridiculously hot, I just wanted to get on the plane because apparently it was air conditioned and it is cooler up high. So quickly my siblings and I grabbed our bags and headed into the airport.
29
30
There wasn’t that many people in our baggage check in line. ’’First we are stopping in Tokyo, then we are going to Canada’’ said my uncle. The lady at the desk checked our bag in and wished us a safe flight. We headed to security to make sure no one was doing any illegal things. Now we could head to our flight.
31

32
We were early, so we grabbed something to eat. Now we went to our gate. Our departure was in 20 minutes. To kill time, we played cards.
