Once upon a time, in the land of
liberty, six individuals completely
changed their society through
brilliant inventions. Their
ingenuity and skill greatly
influenced the American Industrial
Revolution!

Samuel Slater
Samuel changed America by building a factory,
but it was not just any factory. In 1793, he built
the first successful textile mill in the United
States using technology that he had seen in
British factories. Others soon followed his
example, using his innovations. For his
contribution to society, Samuel is known as the
"Father of the American Industrial Revolution".

Eli Whitney
Eli invented the all-important cotton gin
in 1793. This incredibly helpful and
seemingly simple contraption that
removed seeds from the cotton fibers they
were attached to. This sped up the
production of cotton after harvest,
boosting the industry in the south.

Elias Howe
Elias invented the first efficient, marketable
sewing machine. The machine, which he
invented and patented in 1845, was used by
the Singer Sewing Machine Company, a
prominent business in the field. Sewing
machines sped up the production of clothing
because people no longer had to hand stitch
their garments.

Samuel F. B. Morse
Samuel invented the telegraph and Morse
code in 1837, allowing rapid long-distance
communication. This was a remarkable
improvement from the method of delivering
messages by horseback, carriage, or ship.
