One day, the Portuguese King sent Vasco da Gama on his way to find a way to India.

Once they got to India, da Gama didn't know where they were because he thought the religion would be catholic but it was Hindu, a religion da Gama had never heard of.

After that, the local ruler invited da Gama and his crew to stay in India.

Not everyone was welcoming to the Europeans. The muslim traders were especially mad because they didn’t want to give up their trading routes to da Gama and his crew. Da Gama left after 3 months.

BOOOOO! Go away Europeans!

When Vasco da Gama returned home, he was greeted with a hero's welcome and was given many festivities in his honor.

Shortly after da Gama returned home, Pedro Cabral set off on an expedition to establish the first European trading post in India. In 1502 da Gama went to secure that trading post.

Yay! I have made a trading post in India!

In order to complete his mission, da Gama had to participate in one of the most gruesome massacres in the age of exploration.
