This book is dedicated to all you children out there who love baseball!

Tom Gallagher, a 12-year old baseball player for the Dillion-town Wildcats is starting to gain confidence. He has been working on his speech all week long. Tom plans on making Doc rethink on selling his land. He doesn't want Doc to sell his land because if he does baseball is over and they have nowhere to play. Tom is in a tight spot and the whole town is relying on him to save baseball.

Doc allows the Wildcats one last game. If they should win Tom gets the property and baseball remains continuing in Dillontown. If they lose than Doc is selling the property to land owners and its all over for the Wildcats. Tom starts to lose confidence and everything seems to be hopeless.

The only thing Tom could think of is to get Dante Del Gato, a retired player from the San Diego Padres who has "mastered hitting" to coach their team. If they could get him to coach maybe that would get another player too because they are one short of a full team. Thats when all of a sudden a boy came riding into town. His name was Cruz de la Cruz and he claimed to know Del Gatos secret of hitting.

Cruz and Tom headed over to Del Gatos house to see if he is interested in coaching their team. Del Gato agreed to coaching and taught Tom the secrets. The team prepared for the big game. Del Gato got them on the field and practicing right away.

The teams confidence had started rising. After only a few drills the team looked as if they were ten times better. Seemed as if they were ready to beat the Lake View Mesa all-star team. Practice ended and everyone went home to get a good nights rest.

Finally, its time to save baseball for Dillion-town and show the whole town what they've got. The team meets up before the game but Cruz de la Cruz is missing. They found out he had ran away, out of town. The team then started doubting that they would win without Cruz.
