Daisy Decimal hated her last name more than
anything....well, except for one thing....decimals
themselves! They were so confusing. They made Daisy
very unhappy!

Your last name
is Decimal and
you can't even
understand
them! ha ha
The kids at school always made fun of Daisy because
her last name was Decimal and because she always
had trouble understanding decimals.

from school she wondered why decimals
were so important. She just didn't find
them to be very necessary.

As Daisy sat doing her Math homework (decimals, of
course!) she became very sleepy. As she put her
head down on top of her math book, she wished that
decimals did not exist!

The next morning, Mrs. Decimal drove Daisy to school
on her way to work. Daisy was not in a very good mood
since she was not able to finish her decimal
homework......again.

the school. Daisy told her she hadn't
finished her decimal homework. Daisy's
teacher gave her a puzzled look and
asked her what she was talking about.
"What is a decimal?" she asked. Daisy could not believe it! Had her wish last
night come true?

Walking home that day, Daisy had a big smile on her face.
No one made fun of her name and best of all there was not
one mention of decimals in math class! Daisy wished she
had wished for this sooner!

Daisy ran into her mother outside of the local coffee
shop. Her mother did not look happy. She asked her
mother what was wrong. Her mother replied, "Daisy,
something terrible has happened. When I tried to buy
my coffee today, no one knew how much money to
charge! Somehow all of the decimals have disappeared!
Now no one knows how much anything costs.
The coffee shop manager doesn't
know whether to charge me
$1.29, $.129, $12.90 or
$129 for my coffee! It's
such a disaster!

Now, Daisy was unhappy once again. Not only could her
mom not buy her coffee, she couldn't buy anything! On
the news that evening everyone was talking about the
chaos that had been caused since no one knew how
much anything cost anymore.

The man on the news said that a new
system for paying for things would have to
be started, but until then, money had no
value! This certainly was disastrous!
