To my furriest friend, Earl Grey

It was an ordinary Saturday. I woke up, jumped out of bed, and headed downstairs for breakfast. When I arrived downstairs there was no one to be found. I turned on the TV and grabbed a muffin that was on the counter.

A few minutes passed while I was on the couch eating my muffin, when suddenly I heard the garage door open. My mom walked in with a large box in her hand. I was thrilled to see her but just blurted out, “What’s in the box?” “Good morning to you too,” my mom said.
I ignored my mom because I was so drawn to the box. The thoughts in my head were endless. The box was an ordinary square shape, but it had holes on the one side and handles at the top. I could barely see something poke through the holes as my mom placed the container on the table. I leaned as far as my waist would let me until I took an abrupt step toward the container.
My step seemed like a kid attacking a present for the first time. My mom had to put her hand up and say, "Alright, this package is delicate."

My eighteen-year-old self could not contain my excitement. I was almost on top of the box as I anxiously awaited the reveal. I was thinking to myself, "Could my mom have known I wanted a kitten?"
I calmed down and contained my inner eight-year-old as I approached the table with poise. The reveal was spoiled as soon as I heard a little cry from the box. The handles opened and I was face to face with my new best friend!
