My name is Olivia and I am a courageous 12-year-old girl. I am smart and funny and love to make people smile! I enjoy school, especially history class, and I am really good at spelling. I like to play soccer with my friends and perform in school plays.

But I am also a time traveller! It is a gift all the girls in my family have. On my 12th birthday, my mom told me that I could travel through time and space and visit any city I wanted. All I had to do was close my eyes, count down from 5, and then I was there!

So after my birthday party was over, I went into my room and thought about where I wanted to go. At school, my teacher taught us about the Suffragette Movement in the early 20th century. Women wanted the same rights as men and fought for the right to vote in elections. I wanted to meet these women!

So I closed my eyes and counted down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

And I was in 1913!

I landed in the middle of a parade in Washington, D.C. Women were all around me and they were shouting, “Votes for Women!” It was so exciting! 

I inched closer to the front of the parade and a woman stopped me. Her name was Lucy and she asked me why I was in the middle of the parade by myself. I told her I wanted to meet suffragettes because I wanted to be President of the United States one day. She gave me a big smile and I marched with her for the rest of the parade. 

During the parade, or the Woman Suffrage Procession as they called it, I met Alice Paul. I had learned about Ms. Paul in my history class and knew she was a leading suffragette. She learned from British suffragettes like Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters and brought their ideas to America. She is so inspirational!
