The processes that began life were started many years ago, due to the Big Bang. This would eventually form the planet Earth 4.6 bya, however this Earth had primitive conditions. These included a reducing atmosphere (mainly composed of water vapor, nitrogen/nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and hydrogen), heavy lightning storms, intense UV radiation (due to no ozone layer yet),
Early Planet Earth
We are not absolutely sure where life began, but it was thought to have started near volcanoes or near the alkaline sea vents.

First, early earth's atmosphere condensed and formed a primordial soup. The reducing atmosphere due to high levels of UV radiation and lightning would have caused them to spontaneously form organic monomers. Some examples would be the hydrocarbon chains, nitrogenous bases, carbohydrates, lipids, and some proteins. This was called polymerization.
