A limeric is a nonsense poem of five lines.
The first, second and fifth lines have three stresses and rhime with each another.
The third and the forth lines rhime with each other, but they are shorter then the other three.
Limerics are very popular in England.

There was an old person of Deal,
Who in walking used only one heel;
When they said, "Tell us why?"
He made no reply,
That mysterious old person of Deal.


There was a young lady of Niger,
Who went for a ride on a tiger,
They returned from a ride
With the lady inside
and a smile on the face of the tiger.





There was an old lady of France,
Who taughtb little ducklings to dance,
When she said,"Tick-a-tack!"
They only said, "Quack!"
Which grieved that old lady of France.
