Jason looked out the window sadly.

It was Christmas Eve and it was raining like crazy!

He looked at the gray sky and the melted snowmen that he and the other foster kids had built.

Jason was in foster care, and was cared for by a woman named Mrs. Reilly. She was nice, but Jason wanted real parents, not a person that had "foster care" written all over them.

A girl named Mia-Avery lived one city away from him.

She had parents and an older brother, but she was as unhappy as Jason.

On Christmas Eve, she got her own computer as an early present. But she didn't play games on it. She went on a website where you could get a pen pal and write to them.

She made an account and she got a pen pal: Jason Folly, nine years old.

A few hours later, the rain in Harlem froze up and became snow.

"I'll come back to you," Jason wrote to his pen pal, Mia-Avery.

Jason pulled on his snow gear and got out his sled.

"Look at that idiot," quipped a boy named Carlos. "It's snowball weather, not toboggan weather!"

"Let's nail him with a snowball," said a boy named Dave.

Mrs. Potts, Mia-Avery's mother, brushed Mia-Avery's hair.

"There," Mrs. Potts whispered. "Don't you love your look?"

"It's fine," Mia-Avery muttered sadly.

Mrs. Potts shook her head slowly and walked away.

Mia-Avery didn't care about that. She cared about seeing Jason Folly.

So she went outside and called a cab.
