"Hi everyone! I'm Melanie. Today is my 

birthday and you are all invited to my 

costume party!"

I am so excited because my cousin Cecilia and 

my grandpa are visiting me all the way from 

Spain! They have to take a plane to get here. I 

like it when my cousin comes because she 

teaches me how to speak Spanish and I teach 

her English!  

When Cecilia and Grandpa got to my 

neighborhood, they couldn't find my house!

So Cecilia called me to ask where it was. It's 

funny though, because she didn't know the 

English word for house so she said "casa." She 

also called our grandpa "abuelo." I like 

"abuelo" though, it's a silly word but it is fun 

to say!  

Mom was so happy to see my grandpa she 

went up and gave him a BIG hug! "I've missed 

you padre," she said. 

I looked at my mom all funny. "Padre?" I 

asked.

"It means dad in Spanish!" said Cecilia.

"Oh, I should start calling my daddy that!" I 

told Cecilia.
