Welcome to Storytown!

Why, hello there! How are you enjoying Storytown? What, you've just arrived!? Well, in that case, I'd better tell you a story. Let me see, ah, I know the very one...

A long time ago, there lived a brave pirate who gave instead of stole. Unfortunately, the pirate was thought to be one of the bad pirates, and was captured. This pirate still hoped to give his treasure to others, so just before he was caught, he threw the chest overboard. But what happened to the chest is another story. This one is about the pirate...

The pirate's name was Peter. Peter the pirate. Now, Peter wasn't always a good pirate. At first, he was a bad, mean pirate. He always wore a frown or a sneer. His smile was more of a smirk than anything else. Yes, he was a mean pirate indeed.

One day, as Peter was sailing, he came across a small island with one small hut. From inside came the glitter of a single gold coin. "Ha!" Peter thought, "This will be great fun!"

At first, Peter was surprised to see a young boy come to the door, holding a baby. But then he understood. These young children lived alone, the coin which he desired was their only hope if a helpful boat came along. For now they were stuck on and island, hungry, while Peter was practically swimming in gold!

I have stolen from poor people before. I have stolen from children before. I ought to steal from these kids, so why don't I?
Peter was puzzled. Why didn't he want to steal from these children?
