Author's Note
Being a writer is so amazing. It is a great way to express feelings and troubles. I had no way to do that before I learned to talk with letters. Appreciate so much ability to talk and write. Being heard and understood is the best feeling in the world.

Foreward
I first met Fox when he joined our Kindergarten class in 2011. Fox did not speak, but was able to communicate using some sign language. It was often difficult to know how to help him, but Mrs. Pegg and I knew there was intelligence behind his eyes and tried our best to include him in our class. I remember distinctly feeling overjoyed the first time he chose a friend to help him take the attendance to the office, because he showed his awareness of friendship by picking a child who played with him often at the block centre. I remember his fascination with symmetry, both finding it and creating it, and I thought, “The wheels are turning inside that brain of his. I just wish he could let us know what he is thinking!”
It is hard to find my own words to express the heart-filling joy I felt when, 3 years later, his dedicated mother, Lisa, shared the first conversation he had by RPM with his dear sister Ruby. Since then, every time I read Fox’s blog, it is like looking through a magic window into a secret
world. I am so deeply grateful that Fox and Lisa have found the way to break through his silence and share the wonders of his mind. He has such unique ways of wording his perspective, ideas, and creativity. Fox’s thirst for knowledge and his gratitude for his ability to learn are humbling. He is funny, optimistic, honest and thoughtful. It is a pleasure to read about Fox’s experiences from his point of view and in his own words. I am certain that readers of this book of poetry, will learn something new from every entry, which is quite an accomplishment for a young writer.
I love you Fox. May you continue to find peace in the forest and your voice in your writing.

Stuck No Longer
After a pleasing walk
Came to a magical place
Found out I could talk
Like rest of human race
Being so knowing
You everyday are stuck
No feeling of showing
Are terribly out of luck
Amazing to learn things
Always feeling smart
Gives me lots of feelings
I have inside a happy heart
Being so able to say
Nice loving amazing words
Always makes incredible day
And makes me sing like birds

Rage Storms on the Rink
Feeling a mad amazing boom
Dark skies are all around me
A knowing lightning announces the storm
Can’t keep the storm away
I flow along on the ice
Happy to feel the cold air
Bam! A thunder cracks
Rage peeks out from behind the clouds
Mean person takes charge
Nasty mad person is here
Decisions I can’t make
Dark mood and dark faces
Able to hear bad angry words about me
I am taken back
Rage is in control
Rage pinches and kicks
Capable sun comes out
Appreciate warm sun pushing clouds away
I feel rage storm is over
The rage leaves as quickly as it came
Talking is back to being nice
Rage is hiding again

Being caught in rage
Being really stuck
Being BAD BAD BAD
Damn being MAD MAD MAD
RAGE
Rights lost
Anger won
Going less hopeful
Everywhere I see confusion
Flowing Feelings
I am a raging river
I am a babbling brook
I am a wavy ocean
I am water flowing
Awe and wonder
Fear and rage
Happy and amazed
Make the water flow
I am a babbling brook
Going with the flow
Have no control
Flow decides
Careful I am not
Flow becomes me
I am a raging river
Not stopping for anything
Always moving around
Hart to avoid
I am a wavy ocean
I can knock you down
Bad hate
Sad anger
Scary rage
Flows around
Monarchs are king
Learn can use string
Feel I am ready to sing
Hail the monarch butterfly
Find so amazingly smart
Can inspire great art
Travel really so far
Hail the monarch butterfly
The Royal Butterfly
Tiny and pretty
Are found in the city
A short life I pity
Hail the monarch butterfly
Lay eggs on milkweed
Then the caterpillar feeds
Makes chrysalis it needs
Hail the monarch butterfly
Wings have to dry out
Very strong wings they tout
Nectar is wish no doubt
Hail the monarch butterfly
Finding flowers to drink
Appreciating beauty I think
Flying to Mexico in a blink
Hail the monarch butterfly
