packet: A piece of a message transmitted over a packet-switching network

Node:a point at which lines or pathways intersect or branch; a central or connecting point.
Local Area Network (LAN): a network that connects computers and other devices in a relatively small area, typically a single building or a group of buildings.

Wide Area Network (WAN):
a computer network in which the computers connected may be far apart, generally having a radius of half a mile or more.

Media Access Control (MSC): is your computer's unique hardware number.

IP Address:a unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.

Bus Topology:a network topology in which nodes are directly connected to a common linear (or branched) half-duplex link called a bus.

ring topology: network topology in which each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each node

Network Token: local area network (LAN) in which all computers are connected in a ring or star topology and pass one or more logical tokens from host to host

Star Topology:a Local Area Network (LAN) in which all nodes are individually connected to a central connection point

Tree Topology: combines characteristics of linear bus and star topologies. It consists of groups of star-configured workstations connected to a linear bus backbone cable

Protocol:the official procedure or system of rules governing affairs of state or diplomatic occasions.

. Peer-Peer Architecture: commonly used computer networking architecture in which each workstation, or node, has the same capabilities and responsibilities

Client/Server Architecture: is a network architecture in which each computer or process on the network is either a client or a server.

Hubs:the central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate.
