This book is dedicated to all my wonderful nieces and nephews who helped inspire this story.

A long, long time ago, there once a lived a dragon.
This dragon's name was Scorch.

When Scorch was just an egg, he was found by a young boy named Phillip.

One October day, Scorch hatched from his egg.
But, since dragons were thought of as monsters, Phillip kept Scorch a secret.

For years, Phillip kept Scorch safe in the cave near the village.
Phillip visited Scorch every day. But was careful to never let him leave the cave, for fear of what the villagers might do if they saw him

But one day, when Phillip was not around, Scorch decided to wander outside his cave.
He was curious about the new blossoms spring had brought.

Soon, Scorch had wandered very far.
It wasn’t long before he was just outside the village.

Scorch heard people near-by, and realized how far he wandered.
He knew that it was time to go back to his cave.

But before he went back to this cave, Scorch stopped to smell a flower which landed in his path.

Then something happened that Scorch did not expect.
His nose tingled and twitched, and then he let out a great BIG SNEEZE!

With his sneeze came a trail of fire, and Scorch had given himself away.
Men from the near-by village saw the great big dragon, and grabbed their weapons, and drove Scorch back into his cave.
