My name is Francis Scott Key and I was born on August 1, 1779 in Fredrick County, Maryland.

I went to college at St. Johns College and studied to become a lawyer.

One of my jobs led me on a British ship, where I worked to negotiate the release of prisoners.

However, during 1812, the U.S. and Britain got into an argument that created a war. This war was known as the War of 1812.

On September 13, the last night of the battle, I wasn't sure if the US had won. However, the next morning, I saw the American flag hanging, which meant the US had won the war.
