Dia De Los Muertos

Dia De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday that is specifically celebrated in the central and south regions of Mexico. It is also popular in the United States and other countries where people of Mexican ancestry live.
Dia De Los Muertos is celebrated on November 1 and 2 every year. This day is a celebration of their deceased loved ones.

It is said that on October 31 at midnight, the gates of Heaven open and allow souls of deceased children to come down to visit their loved ones for just 24 hours. After that, the deceased adults come down to celebrate with their living family.
This holiday costs a lot of money for many people and they tend to spend a few months pay on this celebration. It is believed that their deceased loved ones will bring them and their families protection, good luck, and wisdom.
One of the most popular and known aspects of this celebration is the sugar skulls. These have been around for many many years. Mexican ancestors started making sugar skulls because they had an abundance of sugar and they were a cheap way to make money.

Sugar skulls represent a deceased loved one. The name of the deceased is usually written on the forehead of the sugar skull and is placed on the tomb of the person. Sugar skulls represent happiness and memories and therefore are designed with bright colors and sparkles. They are made in the homes of sugar skull makers and the process is very tedious.
