Learning Target:
I will show my understanding of the living and non-living parts of an ecosystem.
Standard -- MS-LS2-3:
Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem.

is for abiotic
Abiotic factors are those things in an ecosystem that are not, never were, and will never be living. Some examples are sunlight, clouds, water, and rocks.

is for biotic
Biotic factors are those things in an ecosystem that are currently living, used to be living, or are natural parts of living things. Examples include plants, animals, and feathers.

is for consumer

Consumers are animals that eat living things. Consumers can be herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores.

is for decomposer

Decomposers are organisms that break down dead matter and return the nutrients to the ground.
is for energy pyramid

An energy pyramid is a model that shows that the amount of energy available in an ecosystem decreases the higher up the food chain you go.
is for food web

A food web is a diagram that shows the flow of energy and cycle of matter through the living parts of an ecosystem.
is for the ground

Decomposers break down dead organisms and return the nutrients to the ground. When producers grow, they re-use these nutrients.
is for habitat

An animal's habitat is the place where it lives and all of its needs are met.

is for individual

An individual is one single organism.
is for jungle

The jungle is an example of an ecosystem. It is a place where biotic and abiotic factors interact.
is for koala

A koala is a primary consumer, it eats only plants.
is for leather

Even though leather comes from cow hide, it is NOT a biotic factor. Since leather has been processed, it is considered abiotic.
is for mushrooms

Mushrooms are a decomposer. That means they break down dead organisms and return the nutrients to the ground for producers.
is for non-living

Non-living things are abiotic factors. They are not currently alive and never will be or have been alive. Non-living is not the same as dead.

is for organism

An organism is any living thing.
is for producer

A producer is any organism that makes its own food. Producers are plants. Producers use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to do photosynthesis.
