For new minecraft players...

First, pick a type of map. There is a wide range of different map types; some of the more popular map types are:
Survival mode: Player has to try to survive with the resources they've got on a map. You are able to break and build stuff.
Hello, new players of minecraft! This book is for new players to understand the basics of minecraft, and how to survive the first night. BTW, Minecraft does cost money :35$ (I think but idk)
Creative mode: Player has the freedom to get any block or item they want and has the power to fly. Mainly used to build something creative more easily, like a whole town or city.

As your first day begins, you will need to collect wood. Collect at least four trees' worth of wood blocks by holding down the left mouse button while looking at the block.

Open up your inventory (default key: E). You will see your character taking up most of the upper portion, and below is your inventory,Four armor slots are to the left of your character (ignore those for now, they don't become useful until much later on), and a 2x2 square to the right of your character. This is your personal crafting grid, which can be used to craft a few basic items.

Place the wood you gathered into any space in the crafting grid, and wooden planks will appear to the right of your wood.

Left-clicking the planks will cause the wood to disappear and planks to appear as a newly crafted item. Once you have the planks in your hand, you can drag them down to your inventory, and place using the left click. Four wooden planks can in turn make a crafting table ( place 4 wooden planks in a 2x2 square ) and place the crafting table to use it.

The first tool you craft should be a wooden pickaxe. Take a look around you, if you see any exposed stone blocks close by mine them for 19 blocks of cobblestone. This is the amount you need to create every basic tool you'll need in Minecraft; a sword, a pickaxe, an axe, a shovel, a hoe, and a furnace. You'll need the furnace to cook meat for food and smelt any ore you mine with your pickaxe.
here is how to craft some of the tools:

For night time, the primary danger will be hostile that can spawn in the dark!
These include:
zombies, skeletons and spiders, endermen, creepers. Those are the most basic hostile mobs. Spiders and skeletons spawing together can form spider jockies. Though they are very rare.

It is a good idea to stay in a lit shelter(As monsters do not spawn in the light). On the other hand, if you're seeking adventure you could always arm yourself with a stone sword and go beat some mobs; you will be able to get some materials for further crafting, not to mention a ton of experience, which can be used later on for enchanting tools.
A shelter is something you might consider building before your first night because you won't want to be killed.
You can make a small hole to hide in or a small two by three house made out of wood and dirt. Remember to use torches inside of caves, because monsters might spawn in the darkness!

Place torches in your preferred shelter because in light level 7 or below zombies might spawn. (Coal used for torches can be found almost anywhere scattered around the map. You might have to dig for it too, though.)

Torches
Once you have good shelter and basic tools and weapons, your next step is to get food. Without food, your hunger points will slowly go down until you start to lose health points. The more you move around, the faster the food points will go down. Breaking blocks and placing them cost some hunger points as well.

Health Points
Hunger Points

There are many things that you can eat in minecraft. Like pigs, chicken, and cows. You can obtain their meat by killing them.
If you eat them raw, it doesn't restore much hunger points and can lead to food poisoning. But if you cook them with a furnace, it will give you lots more hunger points and will be comepletely safe.

Like I said earlier, cooking meat restores more hunger points and will not lead to food poisoning. To cook them, just left click the furnace, put the meat in the upper slot, and the coal/wood in the other one.

As the minecraft days go on, you may desire stronger tools. If you do, I would recommend you to start mining! Cave opennings can be spotted often on the map.
Lots of precious ores and minerals can be found underground. The more deeper you go, the more rare things you can mine.
Things to bring with you when mining:
-Torches(Very important! It may get very dark underground)
-Stone pickaxes(or more stronger ones. Note that wooden pickaxes may not be able to mine rarer ores like diamonds!)
- Food. You need your strength.
-Bring extra common blocks like dirt blocks, because if you fall in a deep place, keep placing blocks under you to get back up!
-And if possible, bring a bucket of water with you, incase lava starts to appear as you go deeper.
-Good luck!

You may find coal (most common), iron, emeralds, diamonds, redstone, and more ores. Pictures for some of the ores will be on the next page.
