Dear Diary,

My name is Akeno Tagasaki. I'm eleven years old and I live in the beautiful town of Hiroshima, Japan. My birthday is in 3 days and my gift is this diary. I have to write all of my entries in here.

July 20th, 1945

Dear Diary,

Today's my first day of school. I'm so excited! I hear there's lot of kids just like me. Mama says that we learn how to add numbers and read books.

July 29th, 1945

Dear diary,

I heard mama and papa yelling at each other about the house radio. Mama says that she can’t take anymore, and that she wants to leave and move in with grandma

August 6th, 1945

Dear diary,

Papa passed away yesterday, mama said it was something about a big big BANG!! A lot of people died in the big big bang sound but mama says that our safety is in danger.
