To my Mom and Dad, who taught me to explore the unknown

There once lived a group of monkeys who lived on the edge of the forest. They all had long arms that could help them climb anything. There wasn’t a single tree that they had not scaled.

In the midst of them, there lived a monkey who was the odd one out. He was born with long legs and short arms, unlike his brothers who had short legs and long arms.

“Wait up!” he shouted “I can’t climb as high or as fast as you guys”. The others made fun of him, calling him names and leaving him in the middle of the forest. “Keep up, weirdo!” they shouted.

The monkey began to believe that he was indeed useless and had the right to be looked down on. Thus, refused to head out into the jungle anymore, choosing instead to hide within the cave.

One day, a dragon arrived at the forest. It’s yellow eyes scanned the animals that were running about . He imagined his jaws munching on those timid creatures, one at a time. “I will eat the animals in the morning.” the monster said. “They stand no chance against me!”
The next day, the forest was awakened by a mighty roar in the distance. The animals scattered as the dragon trampled through their homes, destroying everything in its path.

The brothers climbed onto the trees, scared beyond belief. Knowing this, the beast flapped his wings and followed the monkeys. It opened its jaws and fire spewed forward, igniting the trees around the monkeys. “I’m coming for you!” roared the beast.

With nowhere to run, the monkeys landed on the ground and prepared to face their imminent fate.
