Diesel the Boxer Learns How to Walk Again

This book is dedicated to animals all over the world and to their owners who love them unconditionally.

This is a story about a dog named Diesel.
Diesel started out as a cute puppy, but then all puppies are cute, right?

Sadly, at 10 months old Diesel's first family decided they could not look after him any more.
Diesel needed another family who could spend lots of time with him. Diesel was a very active, strong, and athletic dog.

A loving family with a dad, mom and three girls brought Diesel home. They soon found out what his first family meant by active, strong, and athletic dog.
Diesel ran through the house, ran through closed doors - yes, they were closed! - and jumped over the gate that was put there so he would not go upstairs.
"I think we made a mistake," said Diesel's human dad, Dave.
"Let's give him a chance," said Diesel's human mom, Joanna.

But Diesel just got more active, more strong, and more athletic.
He was so strong that he actually hurt Dave's arm one day when he took him for a walk.
On another day, he even knocked Joanna out! He did not mean to, but his leash wrapped around her legs and tripped her. She fell down flat on her face!
"I think we made a mistake," said Dave. "Let's give him a chance," said Joanna.

I'm sorry
Time went on and Diesel lived happily with his human family. He was still active, strong, and athletic, but he calmed down a little bit.
He went to soccer games.
He played in the backyard.
He chased the cat.
He grew to love his human family.
His human family grew to love him, too, even though he still got into lots of trouble.

Then one day Joanna was asked to adopt another dog named Chico. Chico's human mom died and could not take care of Chico any more.
Everyone worried that Diesel was too active, too strong, and too athletic to have another dog in the house.
"It will be a mistake," said Dave. "Let's give him a chance," said Joanna.
Did you say a new friend?
After a while, Joanna saw something new in Diesel. Yes, Diesel was active, strong, and athletic, but he was also very loving.

He seemed to know that Chico needed a home, too.
He was so good to Chico. He shared his toys and even his bed!
Time passed and Diesel and Chico lived happily with their human family.
They went to soccer games.

They both loved their human family and their human family loved them.
They played in the backyard.
They chased the cat.
A few years later a terrible thing happened. Diesel went for a run in the backyard when Dave heard a yelp. Diesel was lying on the ground. He could not move his back legs!!!
His human family rushed him to the vet. The vet said Diesel had a stroke in his back. Diesel could not walk.
"What do you want to do?" asked the vet.
"Let's give him a chance," everyone said together.
Diesel grew very close to Dave. Dave was the only one strong enough to carry him outside and help him around the house. It was hard work, but Dave loved Diesel very much.
The person who thought it was a mistake to bring Diesel home was now the person working the hardest to help Diesel get better. Diesel's loving nature won Dave's heart.

One week after his accident, Diesel's back legs looked floppy. The rest of him was healthy and happy!
Diesel had to work hard to try and walk again.
He went to the vet 2 times a week for water exercises.
His family helped him do lots of other exercises, too.
He even wore diapers so he would not
pee in the house!

Thank you for helping me

Two months later, Diesel could walk around the house with a harness. His human family was so tired, but they could see that he was slowly getting better!

I can do it!!
He could even stand long enough to eat his dinner now!
