weeks before school begins....

Sorry sweetie, you know I cannot afford to buy you any supplies this year.

Mom, I can't go to school without any supplies.

Oliver's mom couldn't afford any supplies for him this year due to the Hurricane that hit a week ago. They lost everything. Which devastated him because he loves school.

3rd Grade

It was Oliver's first day and he was excited yet disappointed that he was so unprepared. He didn't have a backpack, nor a pencil or paper, NOTHING. He turned to his classmate Julie and asked; "Do you have a piece of paper and a pencil I could have?" Julie, his classmate, agreed.

At the end of class Oliver returned the pencil to Julie. Tuesday class, yet again, he needed another pencil and a piece of paper in order to take notes that day. Embarrassed to ask Julie again, he turned left and quietly asked Francisco for a piece of paper and a pencil. Francisco smiled and said "Of course, I'll give you two pieces of paper so you could write as many notes as you can."

It was Wednesday morning, and Oliver was so embarrassed to ask yet again. So, he decided to ask a different classmate before class. Oliver asked his classmate, Lucas, for a pencil and a piece of paper.

"I'm sorry to bother you but my mom hasn't had a chance to buy me any supplies could you be kind enough to lend me a piece of paper and a pencil." Oliver said.

Without hesitation Lucas agreed and told Oliver,

"Don't be afraid to ask me for anything."

Mijo, but you have to.

Mom, I don't want to go to school anymore.

Wednesday evening, as Oliver arrived home with tears in his eyes, his mother asked him "Whats wrong mijito?"

Oliver replied, "Mom, I don't want to go to school, I've asking all my classmates since I started school for a piece of paper and a pencil and I just feel so embarrassed to ask EVERYDAY!"

His mother felt like this was her fault and said "I'm sorry mijo you know it's been tough but you have to go to school."
