I was born on Oct 5th I was soooo small, Mommy had a bad feeling when they took me from her.



Before I left the hospital they took blood from me.

*did you know the united states require a PKU screening test for all new borns*

The doctors told my mommy that I had PKU she was very sad, but my dad was not he knew I would be okay. 

The doctor said PKU is an condition where your body can’t break down phenelananine (its a big word)causing it to build up in your blood leading to health problems.

If your body can’t break down phenelalanine down your body can’t get what it needs from phenelalanine. So I can’t grow big strong like normal kids

There is really no treatment for my birth defect I cant try certain foods like normal people but im okay with it,Its like im on a life long diet

I'm Luna and I'm okay with having PKU.

1- we get phe from the food we eat and it helps our bodies grow learn and feel healthy

2- if childern and adults with pku eat to much phe it will actally hurt them.

3- think about how you eat durning the day what if you had to keep track of everything you ate everyday

4- only 1 in about 15.000 babies born with pku which means pku is very rare.

5- we all need protein to grow and stay healthy so childern and adults with pku also drink sometthing called medical food does n ot contain phe but has all other parts of protein and many others important nutrients

6- having pku is sometime really hard especially when you cant have a food that all your friends are eating
