“Its October 1st class!” exclaimed Mrs. Autumn. All the students cheered! The season has finally changed from summer to fall!

Mrs. Autumn asked the class to share what they think of when they talk about the fall season. Alex says he like to dress up like his favorite super hero. Norah shared her family tradition of visiting the local pumpkin patch and Johnny says he likes the cooler weather. 

“My favorite thing to do during fall is to carve pumpkins!” said Mrs. Autumn. 

“Carve pumpkins?” asked Sofia. “I’ve never done that before”

Mrs. Autumn was surprised! As school ended for the day, Mrs. Autumn came up with a bright idea.

The next day in class Mrs. Autumn told the class there was a surprise for each student.

Mrs. Autumn went inside the classroom closet and came out with a wheel barrel full of pumpkins! 

“Everyone come grab a pumpkin! Your homework tonight is to make a jack-o-lantern and bring it to class tomorrow!” Mrs. Autumn said.

Sofia grabbed a medium sized pumpkin, but while her classmates were excited she was nervous.

Sofia had never carved a pumpkin before. She hadn’t even seen a jack-o-lantern before.

Sofia waited patiently for her dad to come home from work to help her.

Sofia’s dad was ecstatic to help Sofia with her pumpkin project.
