Painite is the rarest gem in the world. It consists of aluminium, calcium, boron, zirconium and oxygen. According to the Guinness Book of World Record, Painite is the world’s rarest mineral. For years only two crystals were known to exist.

The first discovered crystal is the red crystal in the British Museum in London, weighing 1/2 an ounce. The color resembles garnet, and the density is that of garnet or ruby. This means that there might be cut gems in existence that have been misidentified as ruby or garnet.
