Oh! to Fly!

Said the green, lumpy, worm

with a sigh...

How I wish I could fly

with the kites in the sky!

I wish I had wings like a bird

or a bee

or a dragonfly

a lightning bug!

anything is better

than being

wormy old me!   

My legs are like nubs

in rows on my body...

ALL I CAN DO...

IS CRAWL SLOWLY...

Why does my heart wish to fly so much?

When all I can do is crawl over this branch?

Said a ladybug sitting nearby,

You have wings in your heart

that will grow out by and by?

Wings in my heart?

How will they grow?

When will I see them?

How will I know?

to crawl out on a limb...

crawling on branches...
