To my darling Zsuzsi,
I wrote this book as you always asked me to write down some of the bedtime stories I came up with and told you.
You inspired me to think up some silly, fun and loving stories, and many times you helped me with the characters and the story building.
I am so very proud of you and will always be.
I love you lots and lots.

It was early on a beautiful sunny day when Carla the caterpillar woke up in her snug little home up in the tallest tree in the woods.
'Good morning mummy and daddy' said Carla looking over at her mummy's and daddy's bed.
'I had the best dream ever, it was so good I didn't want to wake up!'

Her mummy asked 'what did you dream my darling?'
Carla replied 'I dreamt that I looked really beautiful and that I could fly up above the treetops high in the sky'.
Her mummy and daddy smiled, and daddy said 'you are already beautiful, and maybe one day your dream of flying will come true'.
Carla was excited to tell all her friends about her dream so, after breakfast, Carla put on her favourite pink bow and went down the tree to find them.
Carla looked and looked but couldn't find anyone.

Carla kept going until she reached the edge of the woods.
There before her, was a young girl with long brown hair wearing a pretty pink dress.

Carla watched the little girl as she danced around the edge of the wood while picking flowers and singing.
'Oh, I wish I was as beautiful as she' thought Carla.
Carla climbed up onto a large log to get a closer look, as Carla got to the top the little girl noticed her.
The little girl came over and knelt down by the side of the log.

'Hello' said the little girl 'I'm Bella'
'What a beautiful caterpillar you are, especially with your lovely pink bow'.
'Are you lost?'
Carla nodded and just kept looking at Bella with a big smile.
'I know' said Bella 'I'm going to look after you' and so Bella gently picked up Carla and put her on one of the flowers she had picked and carried her home.

Carla and Bella loved each other and played together every day. But Carla started to get sad as she really missed her family and her caterpillar friends.
Bella noticed that Carla was sad and tried to cheer her up but nothing worked.
But then, Bella had an idea.
