“SHH! It is a SURPRISE!” said the invitation. “5:30 PM.” I read the invitation and put it in my pocket as I walked along the sidewalk on the cool evening. It was the day of my Zia Toni’s Surprise Birthday Party.  “Zia” means “Aunt” in Italian.

We arrived just in time. We shut off the lights and hid behind the dining room table. It was dark. We were all trying to stay quiet. I felt excited and nervous. My heart was beating so loud.

Then, CLICK went the light switch. Zia Toni walked into the dining room. “SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” we all shouted. Zia Toni gasped and said, “Oh my goodness!” She was very excited to see every one.

Next, we sat down at dinner to eat. Her daughters Christina and Dina are great cooks! It was delicious! At our family parties, there is always a lot of delicious food and laughter. After dinner, we played games. We colored and played hair salon.

After that, we played hide and seek. My cousin Adriana, counted down from 10. “Go, go, go!” I said to my husband. We hid. “Found you!” “Found you!” Adriana said.
