RE 4260
Sarah Jones

I am a tropical rainforest.
I am the most common type of rain forest.
I am located along the equator, mostly in Africa, Asia, and South America.
I am hot all year long, ranging from about 68-93 degrees F.
Most animals live in my canopy.
I am a temperate rainforest.
I am not as common as tropical rainforests.
I am located in North America. My largest forest is called the Tongass
National Forest in Alaska.
I am cooler year round, averaging about 68 degrees F.
Most animals live on my forest floor.
I have very wet climates.
On average, I get about 80 to 200 inches of rainfall per year. That's near 20 feet of rain per year!
Most of my mornings are hot and sunny, followed by a dark and wet afternoon.
Because of my consistent temperatures and weather patterns, I supply the entire earth with more than 20% of its oxygen!
I also produce abundant vegetation, and my flowers provide humans with medicines that are used at pharmacies across the world!
My rainforests are filled with millions of species!
These species include many wild cats, monkeys, snakes, and insects!
Temperate rainforests have different species which include bears, deer, owls, and elk.
The species in my rainforests go beyond animals.
There are thousands of different flowers, vines, ferns, trees, and water plants, such as water lilies!
The medicine I supply for humans comes from the flowers I produce!
Scientists have learned so much about the earth from me.
In fact, one time a scientist discovered over a thousand different insect species in ONE of my trees!
That's a lot of insects for one tree, think about how many insects that is altogether!
I have four main layers in my forests...
The emergent is my first layer.
The canopy is my second layer.
The understory my the third layer.
And the forest floor is my fourth layer.
My emergent layer is my top layer.
It is made up of tree tops and steam.
This layer receives the most sunlight, and it houses birds like eagles and parrots.
