To my Struggle Bus team members, thank you for being just as confused as I am.

The first thing you have to do is sketch out the pattern you want. This helps you visualize what it might end up looking like.

Next you have to decide what fabric to use. You will need 5 colors/patterns and 1 yard of each. Later on, you will need one full-sized sheet. You can go wacky with random designs or you can have an organized pattern.

Now it is time to cut your squares. Have an adult help you cut as many 10 inch squares as you can get out the fabric. Leave one of your five colors/patterns for later. You will have some extras! These are in case you make a mistake, or you can save them for your next quilt!

It is time for the fun part! Start laying out your squares until you have an 8 by 8 square quilt, just the way you like it.

Start sewing each square together by hand or by machine. Make sure the pretty sides of the fabric are facing together so they will be on the outside of your quilt.
*Please have an adult supervise you if you are using a sewing machine!*

Once you have sewn your rows together, you will have a finished quilt top! You can use the fabric that you set aside earlier to make your border! Have an adult help you cut 5 strips that are 5 inches wide, this will be enough to border the whole quilt without running out.

Pin your border to your quilt top and sew them together! Once that is finished, you can iron the whole thing so it is nice and flat and ready for the next step.

Lay out enough batting to fill your entire quilt. You will need about 3 inches of extra batting bordering your quilt. Place your quilt top facing up on the batting and smooth it out so there are no wrinkles.
