Hi, my name is Barry and I am a honey bee. Some of you might think that bees are really mean and scary, but I am here today to tell you why bees are important.

One day I was flying around and went to visit my friend Fiona the flower.

Hi Fiona!

Hi Barry, where are all the bees? You’re the only one that I have seen these past few days!

Well Fiona, a lot of us bees are dying because of poisonous chemicals used on plants, loss of food, and our homes being destroyed.

Wow that’s scary, especially because bees are so important.

Thanks Fiona, I didn’t know that I meant that much to you.

Noooo Barry, you aren’t just important to me, you’re important to the environment! Let me show you how!

Here Barry, look at this field what do you see?

I see flowers, fruits, and veggies. I see lots and lots of plants.

Exactly Barry! You and your bee friends are the reason for this field. Bees help pollinate almost 400 different plants, that is 1/6 of the plants worldwide.

When bees pollinate something, it means they take yellow dust that makes plants big and strong and move it to plants that need more pollen so that they can grow!

Wow, I never knew how much my friends and I helped out!
