It was Friday afternoon and it seemed like Mrs. Johnson would never stop talking. Michael was so tired of math class. When would he ever use this stuff anyway?

Michael raised his hand and asked Mrs. Johnson, "Who uses this stuff anyway?" Mrs. Johnson replied, "That is a very good question. I think tomorrow we should learn all about who uses equations after they finish school.""

The next day when Michael came into class, Mrs. Johnson was setting up the SmartBoard. She said, "Have a seat. Today we're going to see why you all may need equations after you leave school."

She pulled up the first slide and Michael was excited at what he saw.

Mrs. Johnson had the NASA logo displayed on the board. She said, "Do you remember when we watched the movie Hidden Figures? Those women were able to solve complicated equations to help with our space program."

"The equations these important women had to solve contained exponents like we are using in class. They also had to use the proper order of operations to solve them correctly."
