Once upon a time there was a farmer who loved math. In his mind, he had a picture perfect farm, but he would have to make lots of repairs to make it a reality. Farmer Rankin decided to make a list of things he would need to pick up in town to make the repairs. In addition, he would take some of his farm products to town to sell. This would help pay for the supplies he needed. So he made his list and started doing the math on what it would cost to fix things up a bit.
First he decided to fix up the pig sty and that would take several feet of lumber. Farmer Rankin needed to fence in the pigs so they would not keep getting out. He needed to fence in an area that was a 10 feet by 20 feet rectangle. Can you help Farmer Rankin figure out how much fence he would need to buy to go around the perimeter of the pig sty area?
(2L x 2W= P)

Farmer Rankin decided to sell his butter and eggs to help pay for the repairs on the pig sty.
He had 30 dozen eggs to sell and 10 pounds of butter. How many total eggs did he have to sell?
How many ounces of butter did he have in all?
Do the math.
12 x d= ____ eggs
16 x p= ____ ounces of butter

Next, Farmer Rankin wanted to fix up the milking parlor. The hoses that carried the milk were in such bad condition. Milk squirted everywhere because the hoses had holes in them. It would take 30 yards of hose to fix this problem. He could only buy the hose by the foot. How many feet of hose did he need?
3y = ___ feet

Hmmm. Farmer Rankin didn't know what he could sell to pay for the milking parlor repairs. Then it dawned on him-- "Aha, I can sell my milk!" He had 200 gallons of milk to sell. He made more money if he sold it by the quart. How many quarts of milk did he have to sell?
4g= _______quarts of milk.
