What a shock. The 20's, an era of prosperity, ends as the beginning of the Great Depression. Black Tuesday, the day America devoured itself. The Greed, Envy, Lust, Gluttony, Sloth, Wrath and Pride of Americans only led them to failure. All of the money gone... Because the American citizen had to have what his neighbor had.

It's sad. The American dream quickly replaced by an American nightmare. At first, the stock market crashing was all speculation. No one expected the business cycle to be tarnished. Herbert Hoovers signing of the Hawley -Smoot Tariff only made things more difficult.

Many Americans were forced into poverty. Most couldn't even afford meals to feed their families. Soup kitchens gave out free food to those who couldn't buy food. Bread lines emerged to help feed the hungry. Wealthy turned poor. Over-fed turned starved. Prosperity turned poverty. Is this what America will be like for now on? Was the US a third-world country in the making?

The poor had no where to go and couldn't afford housing. Many resorted to shantytowns. Where else couldn't they go? They were evicted from their homes. A lot of Americans blamed this unfortunate situation on the times president, Herbert Hoover. In dishonor of President Hoover, Hooverville, a shantytown, was created and named after the president.
