Today you will learn about the revolution of the television.
I love watching the television!

During early times, there were no televisions and most families spent a lot of time outside the house playing or working.
The television was invented by General Electric in the year 1928. This television was named the octagon television due to its odd octagonal shape. It's screen was merely 3 inches and it used mechanical discs that rotated to shoot images. This change didn't really impact the world very much because the televisions were not cost effective, but this change did open doors for new inventions yet to come.

Wow what a small screen!

After some improvements and changes, the television could now shoot a total of 20 inches. The television wasn't changed much during the 1940's during WWII, but they did change the color of the television. Another invention was commercials. This helped improve war propaganda.

Whoa that's some intense color!

Next came the golden age of TV's (1950's). During this time, there were around 8 million TV's in the US. Additionally, new shows such as I Love Lucy and Lone Ranger were made. During this time, the television screens had color and had remotes. This time helped bring about things such as "soap operas" and TV dinners. Today, TV dinners are still used and sold in stores!

In the 1960's things started to change in the television business. One of the main uses for televisions during this time was to watch news channels. When Kennedy was assassinated, most of America turned on their televisions to watch the news. Because televisions became more portable and cost effective, people were able to see live broadcasts of the world. This helped improve diversity and overall knowledge of society.

During this time, many people enjoyed watching shuttle launches.

In the 1970's computers became more cost effective and shows like Sesame Street debuted. Because of the outbreak in popularity and entertainment, couples started sleeping in the same beds together and actresses could finally show their belly buttons. This change effected many people during this time. However, this change also made people lazier.

NOOOO
Time to get up for work :)

During the 1980's there were little innovations made on televisions. However, there were other technologies made from the television such as the VCR and Nintendo. This made it so families could record their own stories, watch their favorite programs, as well as their favorite movies. This drove the entertainment business through the roof, bringing in new ways to communicate.

Me 2!
The 1990's was arguably the best technological era of innovation. During this time the Internet was invented and the television now had features such as sleep timers, picture in picture and parent controls. Additionally, many shows were created such as Friends, Seinfeld, and the Simpsons. These shows have influenced many parts of the world as well. Other countries use the Friends series to help them learn the English language and culture. This era has, in a way, shaped our culture today as well.

Sleep timers and picture in picture? WOW
In the 2000's there were many innovations with the TV.

Did you know that sales for the LCD surpassed the sales of the CRT televisions for the first time in 2007?
Yes I did. LCD's (liquid crystal display) helped speed up the television and made the screens clearer. This change made it so that there were lower levels of radiation so that our eyes and our health wouldn't be impacted through the level of radiation on regular TV's
