To my dog, Chloe, and my hedgehog, Tatertot

CHAPTER
ONE
“Look here, Kalea,” exclaimed Kalena, the chief's wife “this is the chamber of togetherness. And there is the Gem of Us. Soon, it will be mine.” Then, Kalena vanished, leaving Kalea there all by herself. Kalea started to cry probably not knowing that she, a six year old, had all the power in her hands of all the islands. A pig then came into the chamber, comforting Kalea.
“I’ll name you. Wig!” Kalea exclaimed.
“There! There she is!” Ten guards came into the chamber because someone had broken in only to find little Kalea.
“Well, get her out! She could have broken something! And get that nasty pig out too.” yelled Kalino, the village chief.
*****

“Kalea! Take Wig on a walk, he needs his exercise.” yelled Kala, Kalea’s mother.
“Yes, mother.” Kalea said worriedly. “But last time I went out they got mad at me for walking through bushes with Wig. I don’t want to get in trouble again.”
“It’ll be okay. It’s all because of when you were six, Honey. They found you in the chamber and that's why you have a bad reputation. I’m sorry, but you just have to get used to them always watching out for you. They can’t take any risks. Not again.”
“As I have told you, I didn’t go in there! Kalena made me! She told me ‘the Gem is going to be mine Kalea, just you wait’ then she just vanished! I didn’t do anything wrong!” Kalea exclaimed confidently.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Kala said sincerely. “Will you just take him on the walk though? For me?”
“Fine.”
So Kalea left, making sure she doesn’t go through the bushes. While she was walking, Wig pulled the leash and ran. Kalea immediately ran after him but he then stopped in front of the chamber. He dashed inside and Kalea had no other choice but to follow him to try and get him out. When she got in, she saw someone in a mask. Once the masked person saw her, they vanished. The guards came running in.

“It’s her again! It’s Kalea!” said one guard.
“We should’ve known.” said another “Kalino, get in here! Look!”
The gem was gone. The masked person had stolen it, but only Kalea knew that. The others thought differently.
“Kalea! This is the last straw! I am done with you breakinging the rules.” yelled Kalino. “You are not leaving your house anymore. You almost messed this up when you were six and now you have as a fifteen year old. Tell us where the Gem is, and you won’t be on house arrest, but if you don’t then house arrest is your future!” Kalino exclaimed.
“I don’t know,” Kalea said quietly “I didn’t take it.”
“Oh, sure. Of course you didn’t take it, Wig the Pig did.”
“It wasn’t me!”
“Go home. Go home right now. You’re on house arrest.”

Kalea was at home. Bored out of her mind, she played with Wig.
“Kalea, let’s go shopping. You won’t be as bored!” suggested Kala.
“No, mother. I am on house arrest. You know that. I cannot leave and I’m afraid of getting a longer house arrest. I would absolutely hate that.”
“Come on Kalea. You know that house arrest means that you can only leave with an adult. I am an adult! Let’s go, it’ll get your mind off of things.”
So Kalea went with her mother. They went shopping and while they were getting the fruits Kalea looked through the trees wishing she could leave this island she lived on. Then, she saw them. The masked person. Walking through the trees. Kalea ran after them. She ran as fast as she could.
CHAPTER
TWO
While chasing after the masked person, Kalea finds that she is grabbed by a vine. She falls to the ground in fear, not knowing what made her fall. Looking at her foot, she realizes it was the vine, but how did it grab her?
When Kalea was younger, Kala told her to never leave the village because there was a legend that the jungle was alive. It was told to never let anytime leave the village without a fight.
Kalea suddenly remembered this and knew why it had grabbed her. She knew that she had to try her best to defeat the jungle or atleast get through it.

Kalea tried to run away but she tripped on a rock. She ripped the vine apart then ran to try and find the masked person.

She reached the end of the island and there is no masked person to be found. Kalea thinks that they must’ve swam across to the next island. Kalea starts to swim but the realizes that she has never done it before and doesn’t know how to swim. Kalea is struggling to stay above water and gives up, sinking to the ground below. She is losing her breath and swims to the top and slowly swims to the sand where she came from.
Kalea looks to her left and sees a small sailboat. Why didn’t she see it before? It’s almost like it appeared out of nowhere. She goes into the boat and to her surprise there was a dog in there!

“Who are you? And why are you out here alone?” questioned Kalea
The shaggy golden-brown haired dog shook off all the sand off her fur, covering Kalea in sand.
“I’ll name you Sandy!” Kalea realized. “Did you run away from home too? I wish I didn’t. I wish I stayed in my home village. Well, actually, I’m happy I left. I was on house arrest. It was the worst. They always blamed me for everything when I did nothing wrong. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s not fair!” Kalea explained. “It’s all because of Kalena. She did this to me.”
“I-Kalena did nothing wrong.” yelled a voice coming from the boat.
Kalea jumped. The voice frightened her. It reminded her of when she was six in the chamber.
“Who’s there?” yelled Kalea “Come out or else I’ll go in there myself!”
Kalena jumped out of the boat and ran revealing herself as the masked person.
