THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS IS USED:
To describe an action that is going on at this moment.
To describe an action that is going on during this period of time or a trend.
To describe an action or event in the future, which has already been planned or prepared.
To describe a temporary event or situation.
To describe and emphasise a continuing series of repeated actions.
Note:
Verbs that describe your opinion, mental states, perception, emotions, measurements and some others ("to see", "to believe", "to forget", "to hate", "to contain", "to have") have no Present Continuous form.
Perception verbs may be used in the continuous form but with a different meaning. For example:
"I'm feeling better right now" (because before I felt worse).
A girl is walking with an old woman.
Grandfather is talking to his grandson.
Why are you smiling at me?
Is it moving on?
Yes, that's what I am talking about.
She is reading a nice book.
Boys are discussing their books.
The family is making a cleanup.
