This book is dedicated to my shoes. If it wasn't for them, my feet would really hurt.

Every night, Julia and her children sit down
and read stories until bedtime. Tonight,
she is going to read about how China's
rulers united China and created many
advancements.

Around 221 B.C, a ruler named Shi
Huangdi began to rule China under the Qin Dynasty.
He created a system known as Legalism.
His laws became strict and punishments
were harsh. To stop people from opposing
him and stopping him, Huangdi ordered
all books to be burned.

Shi Haungdi also did many
good things for the people. He
built the Great Wall to keep the
bad people from attacking.
This kept the people safe for
many years.

Sadly, in 210 B.C, Shi Huangdi died,
angering the people. The revolts
about cruel policies, heavy taxes,
and forced labor lead to the Qin
Dynasty's downfall.

Many years later, a new ruler began to
gain control over China. Emperor Wudi
took control and increased the
governments power, fixed economic
issues, and created one of the greatest
routes of trading in Asia.

Wudi's creation and expansion of the Silk Road
allowed people from across Asia to trade and
share economic ideas, beliefs, and inventions. The
Silk Road's substantial amount of trading
paved the way for more advancements in
China.

Trade?
Yes

Emperors in the Han Dynasty also crested the
Civil Servant System. This system made high
ranking officials earn their position through
merit and not heritage.
