My name is Vivian Belle Fullilove I was born October 13, 1922 to John and Susan Fullilove.

I grew up in Kansas until I was 4. Dad had a better job offer as a banker. We left a lot of family behind.

We moved to San Francisco, California. My daddy was working and making money for our family. Mama was a stay at home wife. It was really nice.

My brother Franklin (Frank) was born shortly after we moved. It was perfect, until the crash happened.

On October 29,1929 (also known as Black Tuesday) the stock market crashed. This caused many people to be in debt and many to lose their savings causing panic.

Many banks ended up closing causing a lot of people to lose their jobs. Daddy was one of them. He got really sad after that.

Daddy got so sad one day, he just left. Mama wasn't working so we weren't making money. We had to say goodbye to our house. We ended up staying with an older man and lady. They were nice.

Many people weren't so lucky. Since many people lost their jobs, a lot of people had no where to stay. They ended up living in Shantytowns.

Franklin D Roosevelt became president in 1932 replacing that mean Hoover. Roosevelt actually wanted to help the people, not just make it even worse. He ended up creating New Deal programs.

The Works Progress Administration helped Mama get a job making clothes. She also use to make mine and Frank's. She is very good at it. While she was working, I would watch Frank.
