There once was a princess, who lived in a castle. She ruled over a kingdom full of adoring subjects that loved the pricess tremendously.

But the kingdom was in trouble. Their crops had failed this year and the people were hungry. They had fallen victim to scarcity, there was not enough resources for the needs of all the kingdoms people. There was not enough food for the hungry people in the kingdom. And they looked to their princess for help, and it was up to her to fix it.

One day, A fairy god mother appeared to the princess. "I have heard about your problem my dear, and I'm here to help," she said. The princess said "Thank you, what am I to do?" "I am going to give you some peas and you will have to make a choice."

"A choice?" she said, "What kind of choice?" The fairy god mother looked at the princess and said " I will give you two pods of peas, and you will choose between a want and a need. A need is something required for survival. While a want is simply something that you would like to have.

You see, these are special peas. They will either produce thousands of pea plants to feed your kingdom. Or these peas can be used to pay for a beautiful sparkling tiara that will catch the eye of a handsome prince." POOF! And just like that the fairy god mother was gone, and the princess was left to make a hard choice: want or need.

The princess thought for days. What was she to do? She could either feed her people or get her prince. She did not need a prince to survive, but she had always wanted a perfect fairytale.

Finally she came to a decision. She realized that the needs of her people were much more important than her own personal fantasy.

 She knew that she needed to save her kingdom.

The princess ran outside to plant the peas as quick as she could. Once the peas hit the soil, something magical happened. Where she had thrown the small peas giant green stalks sprouted from the ground containing enormous peas.

The people of the kingdom rejoiced. Their princess had sacrificed her own wants to save them and they celebrated her greatly for it. She had saved them all. People for miles knew the story of the princess and her peas.
