To Mrs. Ameres

Okay, honestly, I don’t understand how or why I got to be the bad guy in this story. All I did was help the girl! Yeah, I may have asked for her child, but I had good reason! Allow me to explain. I’ll start from the beginning.

I was there when the miller told his daughter his idea to deceive the king as part of their “get rich quick” plan. I was there when the king took the girl captive. I was there when she protested, exclaiming she was incapable of spinning straw to gold.
I followed her to the castle, and when I heard her crying, I couldn’t bring myself to just walk away. I couldn’t let her be killed, which is what the king said he would do if she couldn’t complete his task, so I did what any normal person would have – I helped.

Now you may be wondering “Oh if you’re such a good person, why did you ask for something in return.” Let it be known I didn’t expect her to give me her necklace. I was expecting something small, but she offered it with no hesitation, and I wasn’t about to protest. It was a nice necklace, what can I say? It didn’t take a lot for me to turn the straw to gold, so I figured why not? I’m fully capable. So, I did.

I thought after the king saw the gold, he would let the girl free. I didn’t anticipate that he would expect her to do it again. The king and I aren’t really on good terms. Long story short, he had asked me to use my powers and there was a slight misunderstanding. Don’t worry, his castle got rebuilt in no time.

Anyway, I couldn’t just say I was the one who changed the straw to gold, because then both she and I would have been punished for it. Me because I am not supposed to use my powers, and her because she lied to the king about her capabilities. So, I did it again, and when she offered me her ring, I couldn’t refuse. It’s not like I deliberately ordered her to give me the ring.

I guess no one is really happy with the fact that I asked for her first-born child, but she was so beautiful, young, and healthy. She was bound to marry the king and have more than one baby. I had always wanted a kid, but in case you haven’t seen me, I guess I’m not exactly the cutest goblin out there.
I’ve been made fun of for the way I look ever since I was little. Everyone prefers a handsome prince charming over me, the goblin-human mutt. There was no way I was ever going to have a wife and family of my own.

I saw my chance for a family, and I took it. I just really wanted to be a dad. I didn't steal the baby from her. She said it was okay! Also, it's not like she wasn’t getting anything out of what I was doing for her. Besides staying alive, she was going to marry the king and become queen, all thanks to me and my work.

Now, it is important to know that after I had turned the straw to gold for each of those three days the king ordered, I didn’t just leave. The miller’s daughter and I had nice conversations – well if you can count them as conversations. She talked about anything and everything, and I patiently sat and listened. For three days, the girl talked my ear off, and I stayed, not saying a word, listening at her request.

She never asked my name. After three whole days, and all those favors I did for her, she never even asked my name. She took advantage of me, and used me just for her own gain. I felt bad, so I offered her a way to get out of it. I gave her three days to tell me what my name was, so she could keep her child.
